The Blue Circle and its partner Acciona Energía have broken ground on the Kalayaan 2 Wind Farm project, with an official ceremony held on 13 November 2024 in the municipalities of Kalayaan and Paete in Laguna province.
The Kalayaan 2 Wind Farm, representing an investment of about PHP 8.7 billion (US$150 million), will provide a total capacity of 100.8 MW. Scheduled for completion in 2026, the facility will generate enough clean energy to power approximately 85,000 homes while preventing the emission of 320,000 t of CO2 annually. This project marks the first phase of the ambitious 350 MW Kalayaan Project, setting a new benchmark for renewable energy development in the region.
The Kalayaan 2 Wind Farm plays a crucial role in supporting the Philippine government’s renewable energy targets, which aim to increase the share of renewables in the energy mix to 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2040.
The Blue Circle and Acciona Energia are also working together on several projects in the country, including the second phase of Kalayaan (249 MW), the Baao Wind Energy Project in Camarines Sur (210.8 MW), and the Ibajay Wind Energy Project in Aklan and Antique provinces (80.6 MW).
Acciona Energía brings its global expertise of over 14 GW of total installed capacity to this project. Meanwhile, The Blue Circle has a portfolio exceeding 2.5 GW of attributable capacity in renewable energy projects under development or construction in the Philippines.
