The Malaysian government has given its approval to proceed with the implementation of the Mass Rapid Transit 3 (MRT 3) Circle Line Project, announced Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp).
The new rail network is planned to be around 50 km, with a circular alignment running along the perimeter of Kuala Lumpur city. This alignment will comprise elevated and underground sections, covering 31 stations in total.
The MRT 3 Circle Line is a much-needed piece of connectivity of the Klang Valley Integrated Transit Network under the National Transport Policy and a critical component of the future multi-modal mobility under the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2040, explained MRT Corp. It will provide modern, affordable and efficient public transport for "Keluarga Malaysia” (Malay for Malaysian Family).
“As project developer and asset owner of the MRT 3 Circle Line Project, MRT Corp will continue to give priority to local contractors, including Bumiputera players, in order to create business and job opportunities for Keluarga Malaysia,” said Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim, CEO of MRT Corp.
This will be achieved through greater emphasis on local rail system technologies, industrialised building system (IBS) and building information modelling (BIM) solutions, plus upgrading of expertise and skillsets through various programmes such as technical and vocational education and training (TVET), according to MRT Corp.
Mr Hashim added that "this project is envisaged to catalyse socio-economic growth throughout the country, increase the nation’s competitiveness in the region and uplift the well-being of Keluarga Malaysia."
Besides MRT 3, MRT Corp is also the developer and asset owner of the MRT Kajang Line and MRT Putrajaya Line, as well as the Malaysian infrastructure company for the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link between Johor Bahru and Singapore.
