Singapore – WY-TO Group has published a research book called “Well-being for All: A Holistic Framework for Tropical Cities”.

According to the company, “Well-being for All” is the result of a year-long inquiry into research and practice across the fields of Urban Planning, Architecture, Urban Health, Sociology and Public Policy, informed by their background in the tropical built environment.

The well-being research was first conceived when WY-TO was re-imagining the future of the Paya Lebar Air Base Conceptual Master Plan project in Singapore from 2021 to 2022. While working on this project with their extended team of collaborators, more questions surfaced when they compared global well-being indexes and case studies to the unique tropical equatorial context of Singapore.

Following this, WY-TO was awarded the Good Design Research grant by DesignSingapore Council in 2022 to further research and develop the 12 Principles of Well-being. Under the guidance of their mentor, Prof. Tai Lee Siang, the Research Team, consisting of Yann Follain, Jamie Ding and Feranda Chua, developed an evaluation toolkit focused on addressing well-being in the tropical context. Designed to be easily accessible, the toolkit enables people to identify problems and suitable strategies that they can initiate, for both existing and new projects, across various scales of interventions.

Whether you are an urban planner, architect, policy maker, community stakeholder, city planner or someone who is simply interested in our built environment, this book is for you.
